Pontoon and canoe access facility for Drumaheglis

Already established across Ireland and beyond as a favourite spot for campers and water sports enthusiasts, the complex is set to benefit from a project that will see a new pontoon jetty, incorporating canoe access at the Marina and Caravan Park.

The Director of Borough Services at the Borough Council, Mr John Michael, informed memembers that an application udner the DCAL Water Recreation Grant programme to provide a pontoon jetty incorporating canoe success had been successful in that the Department would contribute a maximum of £20,000 in grant aid.

He advised that working in conjunction with Waterways it is estimated that the project cost is £35,000 and that it was necessary to progress the scheme now in order to comply with the Department’s requirtement that work be complete by March 31 next year. On the proposal of the Mayor, Cllr John Finlay, second by Alderman Bill Kennedy, it was agreed to proceed.
