'Poor piece of driving'

A WOMAN who pulled out round a lorry because she thought the road was clear was involved in a collision with another car.

Sharon Reynolds (40), of Larkfield Meadows, Moyraverty Craigavon admitted a charge of careless driving at Thursday's sitting of Craigavon Magistrates Court.

The court was told police attended the scene of a collision at the junction of the Moyraverty Road and Drumgask Road on June 30. One of those involved said she had seen a lorry ahead of her on the other side of the road and the defendant's car had appeared on her side of the road.

When spoken to by police the defendant said she had been behind the lorry and thought the road was clear.

The defending solicitor said his client had been approaching the junction in the filter lane and had come up behind a lorry. The lorry appeared to be continuing straight and she had moved into the right hand lane and there was a collision.

He said his client accepted she should have waited. Her vehicle, he said, had been written off.

He said she was a 40-year-old mother of four and is a care worker and as such her licence is essential to her job.

She had a clear driving record of 11 years, the solicitor added.

District Judge Alan White said it was a "poor piece of driving which had caused a serious enough accident". He imposed four points on her licence and fined her 150.
