'˜Poor piece of driving' for red light speeder

After going through a red light a man then broke the speed limit on a Lurgan road, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Wednesday.

Shane Russell (26), Holly Hill, Dollingstown, was fined £100 and given three points for excess speed on July 1 this year.

He was also fined £100 for breach of a traffic sign.

The court heard that a police patrol saw a car go through a red light and continue down the Portadown Road in Lurgan.

In the 40mph zone the car reached speeds between 60mph and 70mph and police used blue lights and sirens to catch up with it.

The defendant, who was driving, was eventually stopped at the first roundabout and spoken to at the roadside about the manner of his driving.

Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said his client would apologise for his driving.

District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, said it was a very poor piece of driving.
