Poppy appeal raises £6,946 for branch

THE Royal British Legion, Loughbrickland branch poppy appeal 2010, has raised £6,946.81 for the charity.

The amount was described as “a truly magnificent effort” by appeal organiser, Comrade Ian Hawthorne, who commended all those involved at the Poppy Collectors’ annual dinner and presentation of awards in Banbridge Royal British Legion Club last week.

Also at the event, Loughbrickland chairman, Comrade Norman Allen, presented awards to four poppy collectors who had each notched up 10 years’ service.

“The branch would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved, including collectors, churches, schools, people who gave donations or bought wreaths and the general public in the Loughbrickland, Glasker, Annaclone, Donaghmore and Scarva areas, for their generosity during the 2010 appeal,” said Mr Allen. “We look forward to their continued support during 2011.”

A trip to France for the 95th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme has been organised from the local area and a few seats are still available. Anyone who would like more information should call Loughbrickland branch secretary Alan McKee on 02840628387
