Poppy Sellers’ Supper held in Ballymoney

The branch chairman, Mark McLaughlin, began proceedings by welcoming Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant Joan Christie; George Black, Royal British Legion Northern Ireland Chairman; The President, Col. Leslie; Vice-President Major Pinkerton; the army cadets, sea cadets and all poppy sellers to the supper.

After the supper, the poppy organiser Sue Pinkerton gave her yearly report, firstly thanking everyone who gave their time to collect.

She said the amount collected for the local appeal so far was £20,323.81 saying it was a wonderful effort, especially given the current financial climate.

Donations had been received from the McCurdy family in memory of Jean McCurdy and the Hunter family in memory of Peter Hunter.

The RBL Golfing Society also presented a cheque to the poppy appeal for £500.

The Lord Lieutenant then gave a short talk on what was happening in the local area for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

George Black gave a short talk on the work of the Legion in Northern Ireland and the Poppy Organiser then handed out certificates for 15 years, 25 years and 30 years to members who had collected for the Poppy Appeal.

Everyone then moved upstairs where music was provided and a good night was had by all.
