'Pornography'

SINN Fein councillor Cathal Newcombe says people on Rathlin are concerned about a planned public art piece for the island which he described as "pornography" because he said it features a "naked lady".

He told last night (Monday’s) meeting of Moyle Council: “I have had more phone calls on this issue than any other.”

Cllr Newcombe said islanders did not feel they were consulted about the art scheme and he claimed the landowner where the piece is due to be situated has not yet been asked.

Cllr Seamus Blaney (Independent) said the proposed scheme was on display in the Council chamber recently and Council Town Clerk Richard Lewis said the plans have been on display as part of a public consultation.

Cllr Newcombe said islanders “are not happy with the naked lady” which he described as “pornography”.

He said when 25 out of a population of 70 showed up for a meeting on the matter it illustrated there is a problem.

Council Chairperson, Independent Price McConaghy, said the matter is being addressed.
