Portglenone farmer convicted of causing suffering to animals

A Portgleone farmer has been convicted of three charges of causing unnecessary suffering to animals, one charge of failing to dispose of a carcase and one charge of failing to comply with a notice.

Henry Gerard Kelly from Gortgole Road was convicted at Ballymena Magistrates Court today.

He was disqualified from keeping animals for five years and received a six month prison sentence suspended for three years.

Disqualification and deprivation orders were issued by the court.

This case arose from a number of very serious animal welfare discrepancies found during an inspection of Mr Kelly’s farm by Officers from Veterinary Service Enforcement Branch.
