Portglenone man accused of stealing £22,000 from Presbyterian Church

A man has been sent for trial accused of stealing £22,000 in cash belonging to Churchtown Presbyterian Church.

Before Magherafelt Magistrates Court was 55-year-old Derek Carson, from Orchard Way, Portglenone, who was also charged with dishonestly abusing his position by preparing and submitting for the church for approval incorrect accounts.

Carson was further charged with converting criminal property, namely £22,000.

The alleged offences were committed between January 1 2007 and June 13 2013.

Carson was returned for arraignment at Londonderry Crown Court, on March 10, on personal bail of £500, when he appeared at Magherafelt Magistrates Court.
