Portglenone Parish Church says thanks

ON the 26th June 2010 a large group of adults and children from Portglenone Parish Church headed north towards the Glens of Antrim and arrived at Watertop Open farm near Ballycastle.

We were greeted not only by the sun but by a very friendly group of staff who helped adults and children alike have a fun packed day. The first stop was a trip on Mr McBride’s “Paddy Wagon” – it was great for traversing the mountain paths of the farm but definitely not for the faint hearted.

It was very interesting to hear the history of the farm and the challenges faced by beef and sheep farmers, diversification into the “Open Farm” has helped develop the farm and has given lots of people the chance to see farm life who otherwise wouldn’t have the chance.

There may be a few potential Olympic rowers in our group but lots of practise will be needed as it was quite difficult getting the oars to move the boat in the right direction on the lake!

After a busy morning of activity a well earned break was taken and a very taste lunch was enjoyed by all.

After sampling all the activities on the farm including horse riding, go carting, sheep shearing and the quad train we were sad to have to leave but as the batteries needed charging it was time to go home.

We are indebted to the benefactor who most generously provided the funding that allowed the trip to take place and hope that we get to visit Watertop again.
