A celebratory function took place in Bangor and the centrepiece of the anniversary celebrations will be a Royal Review and garden party at Buckingham Palace today (Tuesday). Two of Portrush sea cadets will have the honour of attending the event.

In August, two cadets will be travelling to Den Helder in Holland as part of a team representing the UK at the International Maritime Confederation Sailing Camp.

One of the oldest youth organisations the in the world, the cadet movement allows youngsters to develop and test themselves through adventure training, expeditions, Duke of Edinburgh Award and vocational qualifications.

Portrush Sea Cadets celebrate their 70th anniversary in 2012 and were recently awarded Youth Capital Grant of 130,000 by the Department of Education to refurbish their entire premises.

The work is due to be completed by September.
