Portrush woman jailed for '˜appalling level of violence'

A Portrush woman has been jailed for a year for a series of violent attacks on a man, woman and police.

Michelle Wilson (46), of Glenmanus Road, pleaded guilty to a number of incidents which District Judge Liam McNally said involved an “appalling level of violence”.

She left from a Coleraine pub and went to Ballymoney with a man who she attacked with a fish slice.

On another occasion she was drinking with a woman before grabbing her hair and punching her on the face.

And on another date, she kicked a police officer in the head and also tried to bite a constable.

Judge McNally said he found it surprising that another member of the judiciary had concluded Wilson was “not dangerous”.

A prosecutor said on October 18 last year Wilson struggled with police as she was arrested and kicked two officers, including one on the head, before grabbing and bending back a finger and trying to bite an officer as she struggled violently.

She threatened to punch an officer “between the eyes”.

On April 13 this year police received a report that a woman had been badly beaten and needed an ambulance. Her injuries included severe swelling to her face.

The woman had been drinking with Wilson and after an argument Wilson grabbed her by the hair and punched her on the face.

And at 4.15am on May 28 a man fled his own property and flagged down a lorry at Ballymoney Tesco saying he had been “stabbed”.

Injuries included cuts to his face and when police located Wilson at the man’s house she called an officer a “f--king a-sehole”.

During interview she told police she met the man at Johnston’s Bar in Coleraine and they went back to his his house and were drinking.

Wilson suddenly “went mad” and tried to smash a glass over the man’s face before attacking him with a fish slice.

Wilson told police when she drinks she suffers “blackouts”.

Defence barrister Eoghan Devlin said his client has a dependency on alcohol.

As well as being jailed for a year, at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday, a four-year restraining order was also imposed on Wilson for her to stay away from the woman she assaulted.
