Portstewart Primary pupils enter the 'Dragons' Den'

AS part of their involvment in the 'Dissolving Boundaries Project and Sentinus Business Challenge', P7 pupils at Portstewart Primary School came face to face with DRAGONS!

But there was no need for alarm as the ‘dragons’ were in fact Amanda Carson, Marketing Consultant, Frances Rock, Manager of the Northern Bank, Portstewart and Karen Yates, business owner and President of Coleraine Chamber of Commerce.

Working in groups, the children were challenged to come up with an idea for a sustainable school based business.

Their task was to design and produce a business plan, which in turn, had to be presented to the panel of experts.

It was then up to the ‘Dragons in their Den’, in the school’s television studio, to interview the children, study the plans and come to a decision regarding the winning idea.

After deliberating for some time the panel reached a decision on the winning idea and communicated their judgement to the P7 year group.

The winning entry will now be adopted as the business idea for the whole class, with children assuming the roles of managers, accountants, designers, advertising executives and production engineers.

The school would like to thank Mrs Carson, Mrs Yates and Mrs Rock for giving of their time and expertise in helping to make this venture such an enjoyable and valuable educational experience.
