Positive Futures hit fundraising trail at the Belfast Marathon

STAFF and volunteers from Positive Futures' Lisburn Families Service were on the fundraising trail at this year's Belfast Marathon.

Positive Futures provides community-based support for people with a learning disability and runners and walkers from the charity have been taking part in the Marathon every year since 2005.

Anne Murphy, Manager of the Lisburn Families Service explained that 2010 was a little bit special:

"This is our 15th anniversary year, so it was good to represent Lisburn and join people from other Positive Futures services in a big event like the Belfast Marathon. We had runners and walkers participating in various elements of the event, including a relay team and people who walked the entire 26 miles. The general public, who cheered people around the course, gave us great support and created a really special atmosphere."

Participants from Positive Futures' Lisburn Families Service included Julie Meikle, who completed the 26 mile course, and Anne Murphy, Marie Doran, Daniel Orr and volunteer Pamela Burke who took part in the nine mile walk. Together they managed to raise over 500 for the Lisburn Families Service.
