Jonathan Craig MLA said, “The Post 16 Lobby Group, with the support of parents together with the strong leadership of Beechlawn School, has run an effective and informative campaign.

“During this meeting with the Education Minister, the Lobby Group clearly highlighted the discrimination which is taking place by the South Eastern Education and Library Board which is the only Education Board in Northern Ireland not to offer Post 16 provision in moderate learning difficulty schools.”

Councillor Uel Mackin said: “It is imperative at this late stage that the views of all parents and teachers are fed into the process and that following the consultation by the Board, Beechlawn achieve their 6th form classes.”

“Having listened first hand to concerns and fears of parents of children with special needs and the impact of not having an opportunity for their child to move into a 6th form class, it is essential that Beechlawn School are given the staffing and resources by the Board to cater for their pupils moving into 6th form.”
