Post Office gets set for refurbishment

Church Square Post Office, 23a Church Street, is to be refurbished to create a modern environment for customers as well as providing significantly increased opening hours.

As part of Post Office plans to modernise the network and extend the opening hours for customers, Church Square Post Office will continue to have three serving positions.

These will be a mixture of one screened and one open plan counter positions and a Post Office serving point at the retail counter – a new concept for delivering Post office services with Post Office products and services available alongside retail transactions during shop opening hours.

Following the changes the branch itself will open Monday to Friday; 8.30am to 5.30pm and Saturday; 9am to 5.30pm.

The Post Office service point will be available at the retail counter Monday to Sunday; 8am to 9pm.

This will give customers 91 hours a week to access Post Office products and services.

To enable work to take place the branch will be closed from Tuesday, November 19, 2013.

“We are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

She added: “The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The Post Office, which is now independent of Royal Mail, is the largest retail network in the UK, with over 11,700 branches.

It is also one of the fastest growing financial services companies and is developing its online and telephony services.
