Post Office to get makeover as part of modernisation programme

The branch on Pond Park Road will close for refurbishment on Wednesday, October 12, reopening just over a week later as a new-look ‘main style’ branch.

“Our aim is to create a more modern and convenient retail experience for customers that will include longer opening hours,” a Post Office spokesperson explained. “We look forward to welcoming customers to their new main Post Office branch.”

The new-look branch, with its modern, open plan environment, is scheduled to open to the public on Friday, October 21 at 1pm. It will provide the same products and services, but will offer extended opening hours.

According to the Post Office, the refurbished branch will be open from 8am to 10pm Monday to Friday, and from 9am to 10pm on Saturdays. It will be closed on Sundays.

During the refurbishment period customers can access Post Office services at the Lisburn City and Longstone Street branches.

The inclusion of the Pond Park branch in the Post Office modernisation programme has been welcomed by UUP MLA Robbie Butler and his party colleague, Cllr Tim Mitchell.

“This will be a boost not just for the Post Office, but for the local community,” they said in a joint statement.

“The Pond Park Post Office will be undergoing a streamlining with a view to modernising and reducing costs of the physical post office. This will mean longer opening hours for the refurbished post office, which can be of tremendous benefit to constituents from the vicinity as well as people visiting the locality.

“Increasingly, our local Post Offices are becoming key buildings which define the identity of local communities. They are essential in holding those communities together in an era when government seems to want to centralise facilities in the inner cities.

“We hope the Post Office will extend this refurbishment programme to other local Post Offices in the Lagan Valley constituency so that the structures and identities of those local communities can be maintained.”
