Post-primary school open events

THE Western Education and Library Board has announced that post primary school Open Days and Evenings will be taking place from mid-January until mid-February.

It means P7 pupils and their parents or guardians have an opportunity to visit post primary schools for guided tours and view facilities and different departments. They will also have the chance to meet the Principal, teaching staff, pupils, Governors and view work on display.

Principals will address parents/guardians and pupils at the Open Days/Evenings and answer any questions they may have. The visits will assist parents/guardians and pupils in considering post primary education for September 2010. Primary school principals will invite parents/guardians to complete a Transfer Form with their preferred order of school choice from 8-19 February 2010.

All parents/guardians of P7 pupils have received the Board’s schedule of post primary school Open Days/Evenings and are in the process of receiving the Department of Education leaflet “Choosing a Post-Primary School” and the Board’s Booklet on Secondary Education and Changing Schools at Eleven ‘A Guide for Parents/Guardians’. All of these documents will be helpful to parents/guardians in deciding on their child’s future second level education.

Parents/guardians can view and download the Board’s Booklet and Open Days/Evenings schedule from the website, www.welbni.org or copies can be obtained on request from Board Headquarters or your local library.

If parents/guardians wish to obtain a booklet or an Open Days/Evenings schedule for a school in another Board area or if any additional information is required please contact the primary school principal or the Board’s Transfer and Open Enrolment Section at WELB Headquarters, by telephoning 02882411460 or 02882411463 or 02882411547 and 02882411571.
