Poster boy Oran getsSustrans message!

The competition was run among primary schools throughout the Causeway Coast and Glens are and aimed to encourage and provide opportunities for children to walk, scoot and cycle to school.

Many wonderful and imaginative entries were submitted for the competition, but eight year-old Oran’s poster stood out because of the simplicity and importance of his message.

Emma Keenan, Sustrans Schools Officer for Causeway Coast & Glens, said: “Oran’s poster captured something really crucial about active travel, which is the simple message that it is fun, and a great way to stay healthy. Physical activity is so important for children, and making an active journey to school is a great way to build activity into the day. Oran’s message of ‘stay happy, stay healthy’ really encapsulates what the Active School Travel programme is all about, and he is a very deserving competition winner.”

Carnalridge PS has been participating in the Active School Travel programme since September 2015.

Patricia Miskimmin is a teacher at the school, and is also the Active Travel Champion.

She said: “The whole school has really been enjoying the Active School Travel programme so far this year, and the range of activities has been fun and educational.

“We have held special active travel days, and children have been learning about how to be seen and safe on their school journey.

“All of our pupils made a fantastic effort in the poster competition, and we are really delighted that Oran’s poster has been selected as the winner.”
