Power cut affects 6,000 homes

AROUND 6,000 homes and businesses in the borough were left without electricity for some two hours on Saturday night.

Among the areas most affected were Galgorm, Gracehill, Ahoghill and Portglenone.

According to Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE), the power interruption, which occurred at around 21.37pm, was caused by equipment faulting on the 33,000 volt network.

Natasha McGee, NIE Customer Relations Manager for the area, said: “NIE emergency crews responded immediately and were able to restore the majority of customers within two hours. The remaining customers had power restored by 00:20. “Customers had electricity resupplied through an alternative circuit and NIE crews worked into the early hours of Sunday morning to repair the original fault.”
