The Association held its annual dinner in Carrickfergus Golf Club last Friday evening to celebrate raising £35,000 for its welfare work during the 2014 Wings Appeal campaign.

Guest of honour at the event was the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for County Antrim, Dr Norman Walker.

Dr Walker congratulated those involved with Carrickfergus RAFA on yet again being the top collecting branch in the whole of the United Kingdom.

Wing Commander Noel Williams, the Wings Appeal organiser said: “The RAF Association continues to play a vital role in providing welfare support and relief for a large number of veterans who served in the RAF, and their families.

“I would like to particularly thank the veterans, the Air Cadets and many other ordinary supporters who freely offered their assistance during our 2014 campaign, thereby maximising our ability to raise welfare funds.

“It was a really great team effort, with our veterans putting ‘service before self’ yet again, as indeed they did during their time in the military.”

Branch chairman, Colin Murphy added: “We will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain in 2015 so I am especially hopeful during this special year that there will be tremendous support to mark that milestone and to raise even more welfare funds during the 2015 Wings Appeal campaign.”
