Praise for armycadets after politicians visit

Ulster Unionist politicians Jo-Anne Dobson MLA and Cllr Glenn Barr have visited the members and officers of the Banbridge detachment of the Army Cadet Force (ACF).

Both Mrs Dobson and Cllr Barr have praised the Cadets, their instructors and officers and have encouraged young people to consider the benefits of joining the ACF which is a local youth organisation.

Commenting following the visit to their Scarva Road training centre Mrs Dobson said: “It was a pleasure to visit and chat with such well-mannered and disciplined young men. They are a real credit to their instructors and to their parents.

“The ACF instil important values in young people, including offering them valuable qualifications in public service and first aid amongst others.

“Joining the ACF can help young people learn new skills including navigation, physical exercise and work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.”

Also commenting Cllr Barr said: “My family have a huge traditional link to HM Armed Forces from the RUC to the UDR and Royal Irish and the Royal Navy, I have always been a huge supporter of the work of the Army Cadet Force and of course the Banbridge platoon.

“Members of my own family have benefited from attending the ACF and I know first hand the positive impact it can have on the lives of young people.

“Boys and girls alike can join if they are between 12 and 15 and in secondary education.

“The Banbridge Detachment meet every Monday night between 7pm and 10pm at their Scarva Road Training Centre which is just beside the Banbridge Council Depot.”
