Praise for Cushendall Opportunities and Advice Forum.

The Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) in partnership with Moyle District Council held a very successful Opportunities and Advice Forum in the Glens Hotel in Cushendall on Wednesday 18 January. The Department’s Employment Service has received excellent feedback from all who attended.

Almost thirty exhibitors attended the event, which was a mixture of support for employers and for those looking for support, training or employment.

Rosemary Quinn, Ballymena JBO manager said “Feedback from both exhibitors and those attending the event was very encouraging and we had almost 200 people through the doors.”

Acting District Manager for DEL Carmel Neeson added: “This was an excellent opportunity for rural areas to get an insight into what DEL can offer both clients and employers. I was delighted with the turnout at this event.”

Participants at the event were given an overview of a range of service available to them from the Department for Employment and Learning, including Essential Skills, ApprenticeshipsNI, Careers Service Northern Ireland and Steps to Work.

Steps to Work is DEL’s flagship employment programme which to date has helped over 12,000 participants find work in Northern Ireland. It helps address the very real difficulties faced by those who are out of work by helping to improve their prospects of gaining and sustaining employment. DEL also has a series of information packs entitled ‘Get Ahead – Get Our Help’ which summarise the full range of measures which will benefit individuals and employers. The Get Ahead, Get Our Help packs are available on http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/getahead or by calling 028 9025 7781. They are also available throughout the 35 JobCentres and Jobs and Benefits Offices across Northern Ireland and also via Careers Advice Centres in Belfast, Londonderry and Dungannon.
