Grand Lodge Director of Services, Dr David Hume, said the awards had once again highlighted the efforts of members of the Orange Order in many community fields.

He said: “Recognition is well deserved not just for those who received awards but also for all those who were well-enough thought of to be nominated in the first place.”

William Wright – best known as the co-founder of global transport company Wrightbus – was the recipient of the coveted Grand Master’s Award at the awards, which were held in Lisburn recently.

The Ahoghill Orangeman, 87, was just one of a large number of individuals, as well as lodges and musicians, to be formally acknowledged by the Order for their community outreach and achievements over the past 12 months.
