Praise for Lifeboat crew

He was speaking after they launched in heavy seas on Friday morning at 1.47am.

The crew were responding to a request from Belfast Coastguard MRSC after a serious incident had been identified by a Good Samaritan near Torr Head.

Councillor McShane said: “Red Bay Lifeboat has a history of turning out in some of the most inhospitable seas around Ireland. A habit of placing themselves at the perils of the sea to save lives has determined that they are among the most gallant of volunteers.

“The emergency service that many of us take for granted are on permanent standby and receive no financial remuneration for the perilous challenges they face”.

It is believed the launch took place in some of the most treacherous conditions witnessed along the shores of Moyle for decades. The incident ended positively with no casualties.

Councillor McShane said: “I will be calling on the Council to recognise the dedication and bravery exemplified by the crew who launched last week by honouring the station for their work.”
