Praise for Slemish Area WI members

The nine Women’s Institutes which make up the WI’s Slemish Area have been praised for their long and faithful commitment to the organisation.

The congratulations came from the Chairman of the Northern Ireland Federation of Women’s Institutes Elizabeth Warden at the Slemish Area WI Carol Service in Killymurris Presbyterian Church.

Mrs Warden pointed out that each of the nine local WI’s have, on average, 61 years of service to the Institute and encouraged ‘continued local community spirit throughout the festive season’.

The Service was also attended by Federation Vice Chairman Beth Irwin; Ballymena representative of Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice Muriel Barr; and, Mid & East Antrim Borough Council’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Timothy Gaston,

Praise for the nine carols and lessons was led by The Slemish Area Choir conducted by Ruth Orr of Cullybackey WI and accompanied on piano by Elizabeth Patterson of Broughshane WI.

Organist for the service was Betty Caldwell of Glarryford WI.

The Offering taken up during the evening was in aid of Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.

Sophia Maybin, Slemish Area Executive Member, welcomed everyone to the service and Hilda Stewart of Randalstown WI gave a vote of thanks afterwards in Killymurris Hall where light refreshments were served by members of Glarryford WI.

Closing the proceedings, Federation Chairman Elizabeth Warden, congratulated the nine member Institutes on their continued commitment and extended best wishes for 2016 to all their members, special guests and others in attendance.
