Praxis Care staff successfully complete “Best Practice in Dementia Care” training

Praxis Care are delighted to announce that 28 members of staff at St Paul’s Court (Lisburn), Connaught House ( Newry) and Coleraine Floating Support have successfully completed the “Best Practice in Dementia Care”: a six part, self-study course for health & social care staff working in care home and day care settings.

The course materials are supplied by the University of Stirling & Dementia Services Development Centre, Northern Ireland. The course is Royal College Nursing and City and Guilds Qualification Certified Framework Level 3 accredited.

“They see and hear the communication of service users with dementia, they respond in an appropriate manner, taking into account the varying degree of needs and support needed for them to live well with the symptoms of dementia.

“Ultimately service users have benefited from the training course due to the new knowledge and insight of the staff that completed the programme.”

Sean Hughes Learning and Development Officer, Northern Ireland Dementia Services Development Centre and Stirling University said:

“People living with dementia can, at times experience difficulties with communication which means it is difficult for them to be understood by others, their attempts to communicate can be misunderstood as inappropriate behaviours.
