Prayers for injured Ballyclare motorcycle racer

The 24-year-old had to be airlifted to hospital in Douglas after coming off his Suzuki bike during the second lap of Friday’s Senior TT race – the final event of the 2015 festival.

He was later flown to Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool, where it’s understood he is being treated for serious head, leg and arm injuries.

On Tuesday afternoon, a spokesman for Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust confirmed that “Jamie’s condition is critical but stable.”

The motorcycle racing fraternity and people from many other walks of life, in Ballyclare and beyond, have been sending their best wishes to Jamie and his family.

Fellow Ballyclare motorcycle racer, Jonathan Rea tweeted: “Praying for @jamiehamilton44 to make full recovery after his crash at the TT! Hope we can hear some positive news soon!”

Mrs Kathryn Bell, principal at Jamie’s old school, Ballyclare Secondary said: “Everyone at the school is thinking about him and we just hope that he makes a full recovery.”

Rev Robert Bell, minister of Ballyclare Presbyterian Church, added: “We would want to wish Jamie well and hope and pray that he makes a full recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time.”

David Reade, president of Ballyclare Chamber of Trade, commented: “Thanks to people like Jamie, and Jonny Rea in the Superbikes, motorcycle racing is very popular in this area, but sadly this is the unfortunate side of the sport.

“On behalf of the chamber, I’d just like to express our sadness about Jamie’s accident and wish him well for his recovery.”

Cllr Vera McWilliam said: “I wish Jamie well. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Dozens of messages of support for Jamie and his family have also been posted on the ‘Love Ballyclare’ Facebook page and other social media sites.
