Prefab annex refused

BALLYMENA Borough Councillors have expressed their disappointment over a planning service decision to refuse the erection of a prefabricated single storey annex to a property at Market Road.

Details of the decision were brought to last Thursday night’s meeting of council’s Public Sector Liaison Committee by a senior planning officer.

She pointed out that the application of Mr and Mrs Killough, which centred on No.5 Market Road and involved an annex to an existing semi-detached dwelling, was deemed contrary to Planning Policy on residential extensions and alterations.

The annex proposal, which had been sought to provide two additional bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and bathroom, attracted two letters of objection.

First to speak out was Committee Chairman Declan O’Loan, who also spoke on behalf of Cllr PJ McAvoy who was absent from the meeting.

Mr O’Loan said both he and Mr McAvoy were disappointed at the decision and successfully called on his colleagues to support the applicant should they wish to appeal the decision.
