Pregnant shop assistant is treated for shock after robbery

AN EIGHT months pregnant shop assistant was taken to hospital and treated for shock after she was threatened with a baseball bat during a robbery in Dunmurry on Tuesday.

age 473344>Two men wearing hoods smashed the shop up before fleeing during the incident which happened around lunchtime, leaving the shop assistant traumatised.

Police described the woman as being "very shaken" but otherwise uninjured.

Two males with scarves over their faces, one with a baseball bat and the other carrying a meat cleaver, entered the Excel Stop and Shop at Broom Park at around 1.30pm.

One, described as being around six feet tall of slim build, wearing a black hooded top with a white symbol and black bottoms, was wielding the baseball bat.

The second was described as being around six feet tall of slim build, wearing a horizontal navy and grey striped top with black and navy bottoms and carrying a meat cleaver.

Witnesses said the first man held up the baseball bat and threatened the pregnant shop assistant, demanding money.

She attempted to push the bat away but the man then smashed the till and took around 80.

The second male then smashed the bakery counter before they left the shop.

An ambulance was called as the shop assistant was treated for shock.

The police have made a leaflet drop as part of their investigations.
