Preparations underway for Hallowe’en carnival

THE preparations for Londonderry’s annual Halloween celebrations are underway already to ensure the event is bigger and better than ever before.

The theme of this year’s event is the “Halloween Carnival of Lights 2011” and the North West Carnival Initiative is keen to hear from community groups, youth groups, schools or any social group who wish to participate in this year’s carnival parade.

This year will also mark the 25th Anniversary of the Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival; therefore a ‘silver lining’ theme will run throughout the procession.

The North West Carnival Initiative is a consortium of community and cultural organisations based in the city. The consortium was formed to produce creative, carnival-based programmes through artistic excellence, community training, cultural collaboration and civic celebration.

It aims to promote the use of carnival as a means of publicly expressing the creative talent and energy of all people within the city and throughout the North West.
