BREADY Cricket Club is hoping that its sports facilities can be de-rated

Members of Strabane District Council’s culture, arts and leisure committee heard that the 180 person social facility provides a cricket field to international specifications.

A presentation by club leaders also said an indoor Multisport Hall provides a facility for tennis, badminton, Gaelic games, hockey, football, and cricket.

A breakdown of user groups during 2009/2010, also highlighted user groups based in the Derry City Council area.

Members heard that the facility had a total cost of 3.47million, and there were unforeseen additions affecting cash flow projections as well as the affect the economic downturn had on bank lending, and a general reduction in bar takings at the facility.

Suggestions to increase the cash flow for the club included: generate more social function bar revenue; generate more sports hall usage; increase sport/ health/ community/ schools usage of hall at off-peak times, reduce overheads, integrate renewables, sale of front site to reduce loan, and the development of a 3rd Generation pitch and MUGA.

The club hopes the areas used for sports within the facility could be de-rated and rebate. A 20,000 rates bill was just received by the club.

Bready Cricket Club has asked for support for a joint application to BIG Lottery Space and Place, for a Third Generation and MUGA and turbine, which should increase turnover by 3,000 to 4,000.
