Presidential role with church for Carrick-born minister

A CARRICK-born minister has been designated as President of the Methodist Church in Ireland.

Rev Ian Henderson was born in the town in 1946, and was educated at the Model Primary School before moving with his family to Dublin in 1953.

He was accepted as a candidate for the ministry in 1970, and has been stationed on several circuits throughout the years, most recently in Donegal, Ballintra and Inver.

In 1975 he married Rosalind Keatinge, with whom he has one daughter, a teacher of special needs.

Rev Henderson will be installed as President on June 9 at First Presbyterian Church, Newtownards, with a busy year of engagements already planned.

Among his visits overseas he will be attending the World Methodist Conference in Durban, South Africa, followed by a pastoral visit to the Nixon family, serving as mission partners with the Methodist Church in Zambia.

On his Presidential preaching scarf, Rev Henderson will reportedly have a representation of Carrickfergus Castle as an acknowledgement of his place of birth.
