Prestigious honour for Ballymena TA soldier

A TERRITORIAL Army soldier from Ballymena has been honoured at a ceremony at Hillsborough Castle, receiving one of the highest accolades that can be conferred on members of the Reserve Forces and Cadet movement.

Presented with the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Outstanding Meritorious Service Above and Beyond The Call of Duty – an award which is second in importance only to one presented by Her Majesty The Queen – was Colour Sergeant Andrew Scott.

In the Citation which accompanies the Award, Colour Sergeant Scott was described as someone who has demonstrated ‘utter professionalism’ throughout his ‘superb service ’His diligence, industry and hard-earned experience ensure that the administration of his Company (for which he acts as Quarter-Master) remains consistently at the highest standard.’

He was further commended for routinely volunteering his services in support of his local community and charity, notably ‘Help For Heroes’ which has found him an unstinting supporter.

“His volunteer ethos is further evidenced not only in his role with the Territorial Army but also in his church where he is a leader in the Boys’ Brigade and where he works tirelessly in support of its ‘adopted’ Romanian orphanage.

The Citation describes him as ‘a wonderful Ambassador and the epitome of selfless commitment.’
