Sergeant Major Instructor William Barr was honoured at a ceremony in Hillsborough Castle, where he was presented with the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Outstanding Meritorious Service Above and Beyond The Call of Duty. The award is second in importance only to one presented by Her Majesty The Queen.

SMI Barr is the popular and accomplished Master Chef of his Cadet Battalion, leading the catering for up to 200 cadets and leaders almost every week. The Citation, which accompanies the prestigious award, recognises his culinary skills, whether displayed in the field or at the other end of the style spectrum at Mess dinners and other formal occasions.

The Citation states: “He is an exceptionally dedicated member of the Army Cadet Force whose loyalty, devotion and selfless commitment have been outstanding.”
