Price freeze at JDLC leisure centre

A Council Committee was asked to consider the level of increase, if any, to be applied to the charges for 2011/12, being mindful of the current economic climate and the need to attract more users to the centre.

Council minutes said: ‘The Director advised members of the current pricing policies of a number of other NI Local Authorities.

‘A number of members expressed the view that the majority of charges should remain unchanged from 1st September.

‘It was proposed by Alderman Connolly, seconded by Councillor Finlay and agreed to recommend that Council approve the proposed Pricing Policy, effective from 1st September 2011.

‘Alderman Campbell felt it was important to provide services to customers that they could afford to pay for.

‘Councillor Finlay requested the Director to give consideration to a price freeze in the following year and for income figures to be looked at when setting the 2012/13 budgets.’

At the leisure centre the prices remain the same but there is a £2 reduction from £10 to £8 for a family swimming session (member) and £12 to £10 (non-members) in the hope of getting more families involved.

However, there were some increases in connection with lighting at the all-weather pitch and nearby astro-turf pitch - up slightly due to higher energy costs.
