HRH the Princess Royal flew in to Londonderry this afternoon for a special event to commemorate the sacrifice made by servicemen in World War 1.

As patron of the Woodland Trust, HRH Princess Anne was given an overview of the Woodland’s Trust’s plans for the WWI commemorations and the development of a 53-acre site of land at Faughan Valley, which is to be planted out with 40,000 trees and a myriad of wild flowers, including Flanders poppies, to mark the Centenary of WW1.

The site is one of four woodlands being created across the UK as memorial woodlands standing as a living reminder of those who lost their lives in WWI between 1914 and 1918.
