Principal hails excellent North Coast results

THIS month has seen the largest number of sixth form students enrolled at North Coast Integrated College in its history.

Many students have transferred from other schools to study alongside successful GCSE students from the college.

In congratulating the achievements of his pupils, Principal Jim Frizelle stated that North Coast Integrated College’s unique blend of programmes is in direct response to student needs and the modern marketplace. He added that the college offers pupils new and interesting subject choices that break the mould of traditional and often outdated subjects that no longer reflect the needs of employers.

Mr Frizelle congratulated all 120 A-Level students who successfully completed their sixth form studies.

“Our subject options are designed to suit the specific needs and interests of each year group. Our subjects are selected to suit our students. Not the other way around. This means our students are able to study and get valuable qualifications in subjects that really interest them.”

“Yes, of course exam success is important but it is not the only focus for education at North Coast Integrated. It is vital that pupils are prepared for the world of work and benefit from the skills that will allow them to continue their education.

“At North Coast Integrated the curriculum changes each year to meet the needs of the pupils and takes into consideration labour market trends.”

Mr Frizelle highlighted a number of specific examples of success.

“Yet again the Travel and Tourism students received the Double Award A level with all 11 pupils achieving A*-C’s.  This blended course is typical of how North Coast Integrated embraces technology. As a significant proportion of this course is delivered on-line, pupils also learn valuable ICT skills alongside Travel and Tourism.”

“This is the first year that pupils had the opportunity to study Construction at North Coast and all these students achieved A* to C.”

He also pointed to the successful Art department that yet again topped the tables with their excellent results both in Art & Design and Moving Images Art. 100% of pupils achieving grade A* to C grades in Art & Design.

The headmaster thanked all staff that work tirelessly to allow pupils reach their full potential.

“There is a dedicated team which allows the full development of all our pupils. Excellent careers advice ensures that pupils have a focus and know where there are job opportunities. The pastoral team, led by Mr Paul Mullan ensure that the trials and stresses that can affect all teenagers are listened to and dealt with sympathetically.”

Mr Frizelle believes that the positive relationships between all staff, pupils and parents have made an important contribution to the excellent results.
