Prisoners taught how to sculpt, paint and draw

THE Prison Service (NIPS) spent over £100,000 teaching prisoners at HMP Magilligan how to draw, paint and sculpt over the past three years.

The cost of providing art teachers at the County Londonderry jail dipped from £43,076 in 2008 to £38,412 in 2009 to £39,384 in 2010. The total cost was £120,872 up to and including November 2010.

Craft, leatherwork and pottery were amongst the art forms taught at the jail.
