They estimate that one quarter of the UK population could be eligible for help with a wide range of needs such as housing, welfare, social, health, financial and friendship.

Jean told the meeting, that the charity has over 7,000 volunteers working in branches, stations and garrisons. She stressed that the trained caseworkers like herself were volunteers and are not paid for any work they do for SSAFA.

A vote of thanks was proposed by Leslie Brennan recalling some of his own wartime memories and congratulating Jean on her talk and the wonderful work that she and her organisation were doing.

This was duly passed on by the President, Ross Torrens.
