Progress on Ballymena play parks refurbishment welcomed

Speaking after visiting Ballykeel park where work is underway, Mr Frew welcomed the work being rolled out across the borough through the local authority’s Play Park Strategy, pointing out that he had campaigned for such play park improvements since he was a member of Council himself.

“I’m glad to report that Ballykeel 2 residents received a Christmas present when work commenced on the play park to replace the bark surface with a new sponge surface.

“This had been an issue for many parents that we had talked to over the last number of years,” he said.

Cllr Glover added that similar work is scheduled to get underway on the playpark at King George’s Park in Harryville early next month.

“This will be most welcome and a great start to the year for the parents and young people who enjoy both parks,” he said.

Council agreed back in November to give 10 Ballymena play areas a new lease of life.

The sites, which were selected due to their age and condition, are - Cullybackey Road and Ballymena Road, Ahoghill; Tobar Park, Cullybackey; Smyth Crescent, Portglenone; Maine Park, Galgorm; McNeill Park, Moorfields; Ballee, Ballymena; King George V Park, Harryville; Lamont Park, Ballymena: and Orkney Drive, Ballykeel 2, Ballymena.
