Progress on social housing in Glenravel welcomed by Maguire

Cllr. Paul Maguire says he’s pleased that “after two years without much happening” progress has been made in fulfilling the social housing needs in Glenravel.

The Councillor said he had recently highlighted to Clanmill Housing Association that a need for six social houses had been identified in the Area Housing Plan for 2011-2016.

“I suggested that, in actual fact, the need could be considerably greater but that the difficulty was encouraging people to register their interest in social housing with NIHE.

“Clanmil did, however, assure me that they would continue to look for opportunities to meet the need for six units and invited me to help identify any sites for development or any unoccupied new build properties in the Glenravel area,” said Mr Maguire.

The Councillor also said that NIHE will include the area in their latent demand testing programme for 2013-2014.

He said: “In anticipation of the results, I have met in Glenravel with a Clanmill Development Officer, after having identified potential locations and having written to landowners who may have suitable sites available. I look forward to seeing affordable modern social housing being delivered on the ground.”
