Progress on Valley Park redevelopment

The council has appointed design consultants for the £3.9m Valley Park redevelopment plan.

At their March monthly meeting, councillors were informed that a letter of offer from the Special EU Programmes Body for the £3.5m of Peace III funding needed to progress the project should be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks.

Members agreed to appoint Edmond Shipway as design consultants for the project at a cost of more than £172,000, subject to receipt of the letter of offer from SEUPB.

The council is planning to transform the park through the creation of a civic linear park, adventure play area and new sports facilities.

Barring any hold-ups, work on the project is due to be completed by summer 2015.

• A public consultation event to discuss the planned park redevelopment will take place at the Valley Leisure Centre on Thursday, May 15. Information sessions will take place from 2pm - 3.30pm and 7pm - 8.30pm.
