Progressive support for RNLI

THE Lisburn and Hillsborough branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Association (RNLI), which runs events to raise funds to support the volunteer lifeboat crews of the RNLI, has just received a £500 Community Award from Progressive Building Society, the largest locally-owned mortgage lender in Northern Ireland.

The money will go towards the cost of the invaluable kit of protective gear for crew members at the Portrush lifeboat station as they help save lives at sea.

In 2009 alone, the Portrush lifeboats launched 40 times (18 of these were in darkness) and rescued 11 people, two of which were under 18 year olds.

Eight organisations, all committed to working for the benefit of their local communities, received support totalling 9,000 in this, the seventeenth round of Progressive’s Community Award Scheme.

Members of the Society who wish to nominate a community group for consideration for a future Award should contact their local branch of Progressive Building Society. The Community Awards are issued twice a year.
