Projects showcased

COMMUNITY clean up's in Drumgask, healthy living projects in Corcrain and graffiti removal schemes throughout Craigavon are just a few of the projects showcased at a recent Local Community Fund celebration event at Craigavon Civic Centre.

Hosted by Craigavon Borough Council’s Development Department the event showcased 13 community projects which received over 100,000 in funding throughout 2009/10 from the Department for Social Development’s Local Community Fund.

Over 30 representatives from community organisations throughout the borough attended the event and highlighted how the funding has helped develop a wide range of activities for young people, promote partnership working between communities, develop community leadership and encourage active participation of groups in local community services in areas such as Corcrain 1, Taghnevan, Church, Drumgask, Woodville, Tavanagh and Annagh 2.

Chair of the Development Committee, Alderman Sydney Anderson, said: “This event was an excellent opportunity to showcase the many projects which have benefited from this substantial funding. From activities involving young people to the regeneration of local areas and training opportunities for residents both young and old, this funding has been used to benefit and reshape our local communities for the better.”
