Projects to get assets recovery boost

Two community projects in the borough are set to benefit from a total of almost £20,000 in funding from the Assets Recovery Scheme.

An award of £4,880 has been approved for ‘Skills for Staying Safe’, a project for young people with autism, and an award of £15,000 for a ‘Helping Older People be Scam Aware’ project.

Details were brought to the latest meeting in Ballymena of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council’s Community Planning Committee whose members approved acceptance of the funding from the Assets Recovery Scheme (ARCS) on behalf of Mid & East Antrim Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP).

This was the sixth time the Scheme has been run and applications had been invited for projects by the Department of Justice to its Scheme for a one-off funding opportunity to time-limited projects in 2016-2017 designed to prevent crime, or reduce the fear of crime.

Mid & East Antrim PCSP submitted an application for assessment in February and, at the end of last month, Council’s Chief Executive received a letter from the Head of the Organised Crime Branch confirming two projects submitted by the PCSP had been approved for funding for the Department’s Scheme.

Councillor Geraldine Mulvenna proposed the committee accept the funding on behalf of the PCSP and was seconded by Councillor Paul Reid who described the funding awards as “ill-gotten gains now put to good purpose”.
