Prolific offender remanded in custody

A man accused of a range of motoring offences poses a great risk to the public, Londonderry Magistrates' Court was told.

Ryan McLaughlin (27), of Broomy Lane, was remanded in custody on Tuesday on a number of motoring offences after allegedly being detected driving through Glenabbey on a moped. He was also accused of assaulting a police constable and disorderly behaviour in John Street on March 31 this year.

A police constable told the court that McLaughlin didn’t abide by any bail conditions and was a “prolific offender.” Remanding McLaughlin in custody until June 23, District Judge Barney McElholm described the defendant as “a danger to the public and other road users”.

“He will not take the hint,” he said.
