Promises on 
police patrols welcomed

Mr Poots met with Chief Inspector Darrin Jones to discuss the ongoing crime in rural areas following recent thefts of tractors, caravans and large trailers.

“We had a very frank and open discussion with very positive outcomes,” said Mr Poots.

“The Chief Inspector agreed to up the Policing in the area and most definitely wants to see these criminals caught or stopped in the process.

“This includes all aspects of Rural crime from farm theft to theft in local homes. I will be working closely with Darrin Jones over the winter months to insure that we all do our utmost to prevent crime.”

He also thanked colleague Councillor John Palmer a member of the PCSP who has worked on having a public police clinic in Hillsborough starting the third Wednesday in October approximately one hour before the local CPLC meeting,” he said.

“I am meeting the chairman of the agriculture committee this Monday to discuss things further regarding rural crime and hope to devise more strategy to tackle this issue with the help of his department.

“I would like to emphasize that we in the rural community would do as much as possible to make things difficult for criminals, whether it be locking your tractor away in a secure shed or just generally tightening up the security about your home.

“I welcome that police are upping the game to stop rural crime and anyone who has any information that could help them in their policing and investigation should contact them or indeed contact myself and I will pass the information on.”
