Proposed house ‘too close to Causeway’

PLANNERS are minded to refuse permission for a proposed small replacement dwelling because it is too close to the Giant’s Causeway.

The applicant is Mrs M. Dunlop and the location is 108 Causeway Road, Bushmills.

Planners said:

* The proposal is contrary to planning policies as the site is within an area designated in the Draft Northern Area Plan 2016 as the Distinctive Landscape Setting of the Giant’s Causeway World Heritage Site, together with its associated policy governing the nature and scale of development which would be acceptable therein.

It is considered that the proposed development, if permitted, would adversely affect the intrinsic environmental value and character of the proposed designated area as designated in the Plan and would be prejudicial to the outcome of the plan process be pre-determining decisions about the scale and location of new development which should properly be taken through the development plan process.

* The proposal is contrary to planning policies in that the design of the proposed building is inappropriate for the site and its locality.

* The proposed development is unacceptable in that it has not demonstrated satisfactory access and parking arrangements can be provided.

Moyle Council disagreed with the decision. Planners stated on March 26 they would hold off on making a decision for 14 days.
