Dog parvo, short for parvovirus, is one of the most serious illness a dog can contract, it’s highly contagious and can jump from dog to dog very quickly, even with indirect contact.

If your dog has not had their latest routine vaccination then they could be at risk.

She said: “Sometimes dog owners can leave it a bit late to give their pet their latest vaccination however this means they are unprotected against these diseases.

“The disease is in Ballymena and if you take dogs for a walk without these vaccinations then you are putting them at risk. We are advising all pet owners to make sure your dog has all of their necessary vaccinations.

“While parvo is highly contagious, getting your dog vaccinated prevents infection.
