‘Protest’ at PSNI station

A DRUMAHOE man who claimed he was staging a “protest” outside a local police station has been fined £300.

Samuel Robert Stewart, of Milltown View in the village, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on the Asylum Road on July 21.

Londonderry Magistrates Court heard that officers were sent to check on the 25-year-old who was outside the station and was drunk. He began to tell police an “illogical story” and they advised him to back the following morning when he was sober. Stewart then began to scream at a female in his company and officers offered him a lift home, as he was causing a disturbance near an old people’s home. The 25-year-old became abusive towards police and claimed he was holding a protest. He was then arrested. Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said the incident was “down to alcohol” and his client is “genuinely embarassed by his behaviour”.
